What is a SUB plan?

A Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (SUB) plan lets employers top up Employment Insurance benefits for employees during a temporary layoff, illness, or leave. Manufacturers often use them to keep skilled workers through a slowdown. The plan must be registered with Service Canada before payments begin.
